I have installed Ubuntu onto the computer.  It wiped the Windozzzzz off and put itself on the HDD in its place. Then it fired up beautifully. I like the default theme it comes with so I’ll leave that.

The only problem was connecting to the network. I have my router configured with MAC address filtering and at some point I deleted the computers MAC from it as I didn’t think I would be connecting again. However a quick tweak with my main PC and the Linux PC connected itself to the network and I am surfing the web with Firefox.  To be honest I have been surfing the web with the Windozzzz version of Firefox after IE started doing strange things some time ago.

Now I have the network connection I have to figure out how to see the main PC and try to open some of my documents with the open source equivalents.

I’ve taken the plunge and got rid of windozzzz on an old pc.  I am going to migrate to it and the wonderful promise of open source software over the comming months, when I have a few minutes free.
